WTA Free Fare Days Return August 7 through 16

Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) will provide free rides on all bus trips within Whatcom County from August 7 through August 16, 2025. Free Fare Days are an opportunity for regular riders and newcomers to experience the ease and convenience of WTA’s bus services at no cost.

This year, WTA encourages riders to explore Route 47, which connects Downtown Bellingham, the Portal Village, and Squalicum Harbor. It’s a fun, easy way to explore the waterfront, no parking required.

WTA’s Free Fare Days also coincide with the Northwest Washington Fair, giving fairgoers a stress-free option for getting to and from Lynden without the cost of gas or parking.

Route 26 will provide regular bus service to the Northwest Washington Fairgrounds during Free Fare Days. Weekday service will operate from 6:30 a.m. to 8:48 p.m., Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Sundays from 8:05 a.m. to 6:05 p.m.

During Free Fare Days, the final weekday trip of Route 26 will extend from 4th & Grover to Cordata Station, serving all regular stops along the way.

Riders wishing to park and ride can park for free at WTA’s Cordata Station. Parking is first-come, first-served, and overnight parking is not permitted.

In addition to free rides on fixed route buses, all paratransit rides will be free. Free Fare Days do not include Route 80X service to Mount Vernon. Youth 18 and under ride free every day on WTA.
