Landscaping & Cleaning Assistant

Responsibilities

Landscaping: Routine landscape maintenance such as upkeep of inground beds, leaf collection, planting, watering, weeding, removing and replacing dead plants, removing fallen branches from planters.

Cleaning: Support litter pick up, public street furniture cleaning, graffiti removal and other general cleaning needs of Downtown, as directed by supervisor

Daily

- Assessment of all areas for plant health, vandalism, trash
- Weeding, trash and leaf collection, watering as needed
- Cleaning of hardscape & public street furniture
- Litter pick up from public right of ways and landscaped areas

Weekly/Monthly

- Work with Landscaping Supervisor to implement planting plans
- Assist with the installation and removal of hanging baskets in the downtown landscape area
- Maintenance and daily care of landscaped areas
- Removing/covering graffiti on public property and some private with permission
- Remove leaves from sidewalks, keeping street drains free of debris 

Other Duties: Other tasks may be assigned as requested by Landscaping and Maintenance Supervisor on an as needed basis

Required Qualifications

- Ability to understand and comply with instruction (written and verbal) as well as good communication skills.
- Current, valid Washington State driver’s license
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs easily.
- Previous experience with landscaping and/or nursery work
- Knowledge of perennial and annual plant care
- Flexibility to accommodate tasks related to changing weather and seasons
- Ability to be on feet all day, including lots of squatting and kneeling

Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic maintenance and carpentry
- Experience with small power tools
- Previous experience of landscaping, maintenance and/or cleaning in public areas, facilities, etc.
- Knowledge of basic chemicals
