Downtown Sounds 22nd Season Showcases Local Talent & Partnership
All-ages urban concert series brings five weeks of free live music to Downtown Bellingham
The Downtown Bellingham Partnership (DBP) announces the return of Downtown Sounds for its 22nd season, bringing free live music, local artists, and community activities to Downtown Bellingham on Wednesday evenings from July 8 through August 5.
Each week, Downtown Sounds transforms the Arts District into a lively gathering space featuring music, food vendors, family activities, and local businesses. The series now welcomes more than 28,000 attendees and generates an estimated $450,000 in spending for Downtown businesses throughout the season.
This year’s lineup places a strong focus on Bellingham musicians, including Stapletones, a new Chris Stapleton cover band; AEFECT, a female vocal led rock band; Silent Disco Club, a funk rock band releasing a new single this summer; and the debut of Bellingham All-Star Super Jam, featuring more than 30 local performers in quick-paced sets. Regional and touring acts will join local artists throughout the five-week series.
“Downtown Sounds has always been about more than concerts,” said Lindsey Payne Johnstone, Executive Director of the Downtown Bellingham Partnership. “It’s a celebration of Bellingham’s creative spirit and the partnerships that help make Downtown welcoming and vibrant for everyone. From local musicians and small businesses to organizations like the YMCA, this event reflects the incredible community collaboration that defines Bellingham.”
The 2026 season is presented with support from title sponsors BECU and Julian & Company, alongside dozens of community sponsors, volunteers, and local partners.
The series also introduces several new community-focused partnerships and experiences:
Aslan Depot will host a Downtown Sounds kick-off party, Sound Check, on Wednesday, July 1, from 7 – 11 PM, featuring a to-be-announced returning favorite band from previous Downtown Sounds seasons and local DJs.
YMCA of Whatcom County will offer “Parents Night Out” childcare services during Downtown Sounds evenings (excluding July 22), creating an option for parents of children ages 4–11 to enjoy the event while their children participate in supervised activities nearby.
Free, secure bike valet services will return throughout the season thanks to sponsorship support from Saturna Capital, helping make Downtown Sounds more accessible for attendees arriving by bicycle.
Boundary Bay Brewing will release their Downtown Sounds IPA in cans for the first time ever, which can be found wherever you buy your Boundary beer.
Concertgoers can enjoy food trucks, family-friendly activities, and giveaways from title sponsors BECU and Julian & Company. For 21+ attendees, the beverage garden features local breweries and cideries plus wine and non-alcoholic options. Early arrivers can enjoy $2 off drink tokens during happy hour from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
